Wonton is a Chinese cuisine made by placing a desired amount of filling onto a square wrapper, which is a dough skin usually made from flour, salt, water and egg. Well, for our case, we bought the eggless ones.

Wonton is very popular as a side dish of noodle. And therefore, there is wonton mee or wonton noodles. However, today we are not going to talk about the noodle. The side dish is now going to be the main attraction!

We usually have wontons when we go to vegetarian restaurants but today we have decided to make some of our own! I did some online research as well as vegetarian recipe books for the filling. At the end, it was somewhat a mixture of the researches and the memory of the filling’s tasted when we eat out!

We used cabbage, carrots, mushrooms and XiangShuJi (a kind of fake chicken meat made of soy) to make the filling. Everything has to be finely chopped and mixed. Then, I fried everything together until fragrant. I added a bit of salt, pepper and soy sauce to taste.

Meanwhile, Colin seperated the wonton wraps pieces by pieces. When the filling has cooled down, he put the filling onto each piece and wrap it up. He did a fantastic job! Look at how they were all beautifully wrapped! Beat the restaurants! Haha…

We fried them instead of making wonton soup. Both are as delicious though. Why don’t you give it a try too? Give us some feedback once you have tried.
Next time, we will try the soup base wonton.
