Tortoise has its legend from the famous tale, “The Tortoise and The Hare” where the arrogant hare lost in the race due to being too proud of himself and looked down on the tortoise. On the other hand, the humble tortoise didn’t give up even though he was known for his slow and steady pace, won the race due to his hard work and strong spirit.

Tortoises are generally shy and reclusive. But the ones that we met during mountain climbing on Bukit Kledang welcomed us as if they were glad that there are visitors to see them.

They appeared on the surface of a man made pond, one after another. Underneath them, there are some fish.

Keeping tortoises is not easy as there are many requirements that need to be fulfilled. One of them would be a satisfying roaming space for them to roam freely.

These are tortoises at the Sam Poh Tong cave in Ipoh, Perak. The management did a good job in providing quite an amount of space for the tortoises to roam around and they also prepared a pond.

Tortoises are plant-eaters. A kind of vegetable called “kangkung” in Malay is being sold at the entrance for visitors to purchase and feed to the tortoises here.

Tortoises here varies in size but they live together under one roof in harmony.
