Hairy Caterpillar 01

These caterpillars are found in our garden on the willow tree.  There were more than 5 in a group and all eating the willow leaves.  They were crawling slowly on the willow leaves.  At anytime, any one of the caterpillars may be falling down to the ground.

It happened.  When a breeze came, one of the caterpillars was blown into the air.  Surprisingly instead of falling onto the ground, it was hanging in the air.  First I thought there was a spider web.  I was not sure either the caterpillar was lucky.  It may get lucky if it only fell onto the grass below the willow tree, otherwise it may become the food of the spider.  While the breeze was blowing, the catepillar was swinging around on the stiky spider web which disallow me to take its closed-up photo.

Both are not the case.  After the short while, while the breeze stopped or getting weaker, the caterpillar started to move itself.  It climbed up through a vertical silk line and reached the willows leave, and start eating againAmazing!!!  It was not the spider web but it’s its own silk.  It was clever, had prepared and getting ready for the bad environment.

The breeze attacked the caterpillar again, I witnessed the caterpillar climbing up again using the different vertical line.  Now I have a stronger fact that the silk was produced by itself although I can’t see the caterpillar silk.  The silk was too thin, and I did not want to hurt it by touching its silk.

The destiny is in our hands.  Instead of letting the environment make changes to us, why not let us take the initiative to improve this environment.  Every entity in this universal have their rights and abilities to protect themselves, and blend themselves into this mother nature.
