An apple a day keeps the doctor away. Do you eat apple everyday?
Weeks ago, we found 6 different types of apples in a supermarket. One of them is our favorite but is also the most expensive - the NZ Queen Apple (4122), it costs RM1.40 each at other places but it only costs RM1.10 here. Therefore we bought one for each type of apple and test them.
We have become the apple tester. Although they are 7500 different cultivars of apples around the world [source from wikipedia], and we only tested a few of them, but we felt great that we can enjoy each of them, tasted their sweetness with our tongues, felt the feeling when biting them, and listened to the sound when chewing them.

This is our favorite apple - 4122. No matter what is it called, because different supermarket may call it differently, we recognize it by the number 4122. It also has the most beautiful skin combining red, yellow and colours in between. It is the sweetest apple among all apples that we have tested. It is also the crispiest. I like the sound when it is chewed in my mouth. It is not as hard as the Delicious Red (Washington) apple, but not too soft compare to Fuji. It is just the greatest apple.

This is a dark red colour apple. Its shape is tall which make it looks slim. It is usually know as Delicious Red or Washington apple, it has a thick skin.

This is big Fuji apple. It is largest among all of the apples here. It has strong mealiness. It does not have crispiness at all until you can bite it with your tongue if it is overripe. That is why this apple keeps very quiet in our mouth.

NZ Fuji apple (4129) looks quite similar to 4122, but when I see the word Fuji, I know that it is the softest apple.

These are the Royal Gala small red apples. We bought them in a pack of five. It is the smallest and cheapest among all apples above. We can finish it with less than 5 bites.

This green apple aka Granny Smith is small and sour. It is full of vitamin C. According to the information on Wikipedia, it content 4.6 mg of Vitamin C or 8 % of US recommendation of Adult intake if it is eaten with its skin together. It is also rich in other mineral such as potassium, phosphorus, Vitamin B6 and B2 and many others. But I believe it is less popular apple because it is sour. Remember, it is nutritious.

The prices for different apples.

All the information above is base on our finding in Kuching. It may be different at on other places for example the name of the fruit. In Kuching, a pear is called “Pi2Pa2” in Mandarin, but I guess the rest of the world call it “Li2”. The tastes, crispiness, softness of apples may be different in other places because it takes time to harvest, and transport to Kuching, on the way, the quality has changed. From my research, Gala is soft, but I do not think so from what I have eaten. Different apples have different harvesting season, and I have heard that some of the apples have even been kept for months before it is sold to the market. Do you believe it?

Follow-up comment rss or Leave a Trackbacknz apple is also called rose apple sometimes.
Yes, that’s right. You mean the NZ Queen sometimes is labelled as NZ Rose. Both have the same number, 4122.
Rose and NZ Queen is different apple type. China Fuji Apple is soft like what you have mentioned above. South Africa Fuji Apple is nice - crunchy and sweet. Honey Apple is nice too. You may want to have a try. For my own preference, I will rank the apple as follows: -
1) South Africa Fuji Apple
2) Honey Apple
3) Rose Apple
4) NZ Queen (4122)
I can’t recall the number for now. Will update it once I bought it again.
Cheers~
