KL Trip 2008 - KL Tower 01
This is how the tower head looks like.

KL Tower or Menara KL (in Malay) is the 5th tallest tower in the world with its height of 421m (1381ft).  It was launched in 1996.  It is used for telecommunication and broadcasting purposes.  There is a public observation deck at the height of 276 meters, and there is a revolving restaurant which we have missed this time.

Does it look like a hammer from this angle?

KL Trip 2008 - KL Tower 03
We passed by this sign board, I thought this may be the best location to take the photo of the KL Tower, but it was not really true, the KL Tower taken from here was interfered by the lines of the power or telephone cable.  So my suggestion is you better go to other places than this sign board to take the photo of KL Tower.  :p  Sorry that I have to tell the truth.  I deleted the photos of KL Tower that I have taken from here.  I think the second picture above which I took somewhere else is better.

Let’s take a closer look.  It’s a bit blur because I zoomed to the max and I shoke my hand a little bit when I was trying hard to focus.  There are many different types of antennas up there.

KL Trip 2008 - KL Tower 05
When I was right underneath the tower, I can see the antenna clearer.

KL Trip 2008 - KL Tower 06
The basement of KL Tower looks like the lotus.

KL Trip 2008 - KL Tower 07
Yes, we were right underneath the KL Tower.

…  Well, let’s start our stories from the beginning.

KL Trip 2008 - KL Tower 08

We took trains and walked and walked and finally we reached the KL Tower entrance, the helpful traffic controllers directed us to the place to wait for the shuttle van to drive us up to the KL Tower.  This is the first time I came here, I just realised that it is on Bukit Nanas (which means Pineapple Hill in Malay).

KL Trip 2008 - KL Tower 09
It’s a security booth actually and there are quite a numbers of people waiting for the van at the same time.

KL Trip 2008 - KL Tower 10
The service is free.

KL Trip 2008 - KL Tower 11
From here we found that there will be 15 minutes gap between each service, and we missed the first van because it was already fulled by the queue in front of us.  We thought that we have to wait 15 minutes, but less than 2 minutes there came another van.  We were lucky because the driver has just came back from refilling petrol of that van.

KL Trip 2008 - KL Tower 12
This is the way to go up Bukit Nanas.

KL Trip 2008 - KL Tower 13
Look closer again from the previous photo, there is a specially-designed stele of the KL tower.

KL Trip 2008 - KL Tower 14
Less than 5 minutes, we reach the front door of the KL Tower building and we were greeted by this pineapple rubbish bin.  Don’t worry, it is not as big as you imagine.  :p

KL Trip 2008 - KL Tower 15
Our main purpose was to view the whole KL at the observation deck, we ignored other things such as the Malay dance performance which blocked our way going up the escalator, and we headed directly to the ticket counter.  We are more interested to reached to the top of the tower instead of watching the performance.

KL Trip 2008 - KL Tower 16
Here came the lift.

KL Trip 2008 - KL Tower 18
Can you find SiewPeng and me in this photo?  We were in a crowded lift.

KL Trip 2008 - KL Tower 19
Again we had to queue up waiting for the staff to give us our audio vidoe guided equipment.  We found it inconvinence because I am carrying a bag and a camera.  I returned it before I finish watching the first video clip.  It is actually something similar to an mp4 player but the screen is much bigger with 3 or 4 inches and it is almost the same weight as my bulky camera.

KL Trip 2008 - KL Tower 20

We spent at least one hour at the viewing tower.  I had taken a lot of photos which I will categorize and post them tomorrow.

…  One hour later,
we take the lift again to go down the tower, and we started to explore around.

KL Trip 2008 - KL Tower 21

There were no more dance, but we saw the Malay musical instruments.

KL Trip 2008 - KL Tower 22
There were different types of Malay musical instruments, do you know their names?

KL Trip 2008 - KL Tower 23
There was a clown who used long-shaped balloons to make into animals and things.

KL Trip 2008 - KL Tower 24
There were stalls selling souvenirs.

There are other activities available here which are more than what I expected.  There are bird watching area, forest information center, jogging trails, mini Herbal Park etc.  We did not have enuogh time to explore each of them.

KL Trip 2008 - KL Tower 25
Hehe…  There is an advertisement banner which illustrate the KL Tower and KLCC becomes the corn.

KL Trip 2008 - KL Tower 26

Bukit Nanas (Pineapple Hill) is one of the oldest permanant forest reserve in the country.  They called it Rimba Di Kota (Forest in the City) which is the only remaining tropical rainforest that stands in the middle of the KL city.

KL Trip 2008 - KL Tower 27
There were a parrot and two mouse-look-alike creatures as samples at the ticket counter, we just said hi to them and had no time to see the rest of their relatives.

KL Trip 2008 - KL Tower 28

There was a shuttle van when we wanted to go down the hill of Bukit Nanas.  But we asked the security guard if it is possible that we walk down, he said no problem and pointed us the stair case and told us that it is a  6 minutes walk.  Then we prefer to walk and hope that we can see more things.

We saw people installing the christmas tree, as the christmas is coming soon.

KL Trip 2008 - KL Tower 29
This is a polyform-made stone wall.

KL Trip 2008 - KL Tower 30
The thin christmas trees seem real in the winter snow.

KL Trip 2008 - KL Tower 31
Wow, what a mess.  I believe this place will look different soon.

KL Trip 2008 - KL Tower 32
On the left side of this photo there is a stair case which we use to go down the hill, if we walk faster, we are actually faster then the shuttle van.

Half way on the hill we saw the “shoot from here” signboard which I had shown above.  We walked and took photo around.

KL Trip 2008 - KL Tower 33

I turned my head back and said bye bye to KL tower, and we headed to KLCC.

We will show you in the next post the bird view photos which I had taken on the observation deck.  I am still sorting and filtering the photos, and I discovered something.  I can see many KL buildings from there, but the only one that I cannot see is KL Tower.  Is it possible that I can see KL Tower when I was on top of the KL Tower?  I have thought of a way, I tell you tomorrow.
