As you may know Kuching is also known as cat city and “Kucing” in Malay means cat as well. There is a big cat statue located at Jalan Padungan. During festive seasons, it would be decorated according to the festival theme. Now, the cat is wearing red clothes to celebrate Chinese New Year.
We wanted to take these photos long ago, but there were many obstacles. It rained almost everyday since Chinese New Year especially in the evening time. We went there yesterday, it didn’t rain, but the lights at the cat statue were not switched on. This evening, our camera almost run out of battery power. But finally we have waited for a good time, and took these pictures.

Besides the red clothes on the cat, you can also see there are many small lanterns behind the cat. The arrangement made a Chinese New Year look, except the plants in front of the cats.
I can’t find anything that can hold my camera. I need to use my bulky and heavy tripod to support my camera so that SiewPeng and I can appear together in the photos. Usually I try to avoid tripod, but today I told myself I have to use it because we have waited for many days, it was a good opportunity and we must take good pictures, because soon the MBKS (Majlis Bandaraya Kuching Selatan) is going to remove the Chinese New Year features on the cat.
Can you imagine, a small camera installed on a big tripod? Haha… When I think about it, I feel that it really looks funny.
Many people like camwhoring which means they like to take the picture of themselves everywhere. The most traditional way is hold camera with a straight arm and pointing camera to their own face. If you want to have better control on the backgound, I suggest you to use a tripod. you can ask others to take your photos, but it is not my preference because the quality of the photo taken by others may not satisfy me. :p

The cat is now looking at the camera.
Do you notice that there are sakura flowers in pink next to the cat?
