These Chinese Snacks are called “Kok Kueh” in Ipoh. I am not sure whether other places in West Malaysia call it by the same name. I guess “Kok” means the horn in Cantonese, do you think that the food has the horn shape? “Kueh” is the general name of the bite-sized food item. The word “Kueh” is origined from Hokkien, but now it is also included in Malay dictionary.

These kuehs are made of different ingredient depend on its flavour. Yellow is usually made of Cassava or Ubi Kayu in Malay. We don’t have dark purple here which usually is made of red bean. There are corn flavours also.

We can only find limited colours and flavours in Kuching, but we find more different types in Ipoh. Both places have similar shapes of kuehs, but the kuehs from Ipoh are more creative in their colouring and flavour.

The multi-layered Kueh can be found in Kuching as well, but in different colours. Here we have a red-pink-white multilayer kueh.

- These blue and green parts combine with yellow ubi kayu are made of glutinous rice (sticky rice).

Yesterday, one of our friend who likes cooking very much and in-charge of cooking in our group, used rice to make a new type of snack. If you have unfinished rice, don’t throw it away, you can make it into ball shapes and deep fried them. Delicious !!!
Today is another Monday again, wish you have a “colourful” week ahead.
