We Miss Damselfly 01

It happened again, we just thought about it, mentioned about it, and wished to see it again, it really appeared again for us.

As I told you before, damselfly is not a dragonfly, we like its shapes, colours, and its flying patterns very much.  She is extremely slim and in good shape.  We were very excited when we saw it again.  May be we had been too busy on other things and had put her aside.

We Miss Damselfly 02

The damselfly stopped on a piece of green cloth.  Based on the cloth you can see which part of the damselfly that I focused to - it’s her eyes.  Manual focus on my camera is not as easy as the SLR / DSLR, I have to press a button, turn the knob, check the correct focus on the small and low resolution LCD panel, and everything must be done very quickly and quietly, otherwise the damselfly will fly away.

It is not always easy to increase the DOF (Deapth of Field) by reduce the apeature (increase F stop number) under low light situation.  Macro flash ring and a fast lense may help but I do not have them.  I do not want to use high ISO and sacrify on the noise.

I talked to SiewPeng about different types of challenges in photography while we were talking about the damselfly.

1.  For taking the pictures of scenery (especially sunrise and sunset) exposure is the main challenge because a small increase / decrease of EV (exposure value) may give more details in the pictures.

2.  Whereas in macro photography, focus is the main challenge (especially the subject is moving all the time).

3.  For most of the catogaries in photography timing is the common challenge.  Once you miss that moment, you miss it forever.
