This is the first time SiewPeng and I stepped our feet at Thean Hou Temple in KL. We have been thinking of visiting this temple since last visit to KL, and this time we did it.
In Chinese we called it “TianHouGong“. ”TianHou” means Heavenly Mother - one of the Goddesses in Chinese believe.
This temple is about 1.67 acres (6,760 m²). It is smaller than what I had expected but I was amazed by the cultural elements that can be found at almost every corner in this temple. This temple also provides marriage registration services. We saw at least 3 or more couples here on the day we visited Thean Hou Temple.

It cost us RM35 to take taxi (the transport service with taxi coupon which we initially thought it supposed to be reasonable but it was not actually cheap, and they had scared us from taking their services in the future, it is really expensive). If I knew earlier that this temple is located near Mid Valley, we would have take a train to Mid Valley and walk to this temple. Now I have learned where this temple is, and I can either take a train or bus to this temple. We like to explore, but saving money and time is important as well. It only cost us RM 1 each person to go to Mid Valley by bus from Thean Hou Temple.

This temple belongs to and is run by the Selangor Federal Territory Hainan Association(Persatuan Hainan Selangor Wilayah Persekutuan). According to Wikipedia, it is a syncretic temple with elements of Buddhism, Taoism and Confucianism.

We were looking towards the main building from the entrance.

There are shops at the ground floor of the main building selling souvenir, food etc..

Chinese style building structures.

Chinese style octagon pergola.

Chinese style archway.

From the upper floor, we looked towards the ground floor. Everything is in traditional Chinese style.

In this temple, there are 2 pergolas, one on the left, and other on the right of the main temple. We were sitting in one of the Pergolas. As I know, usually if you were standing in a temple facing the main door (facing outside), a big metal bell (which is to be sounded in the morning) is hung on the right, and a big drum (which is to be sounded in the evening) is hung on the right of a temple. The bell and drum of this temple is hung on the ceiling of the pergolas. I will show you the photos of the bell and drum in the coming post.

We are taking photos of ourselves again with the temple as our background.

I had a multilayer square cap like the one wore on a graduation day. SiewPeng has a octagon crown on her head. :P

Again, we found irresponsible people left unfinished food on upper floor instead of throwing the food into rubbish bin. If there were strong wind blowing, it would fall down to the lower ground.
I have more photos of TheanHow Temple and will show you very soon.
