Hidden in the center of the busy city, Kuala Lumpur, there is an extremely huge bird cage which is about 20.9 acres.  There are thousands of birds inside it.  Is there such an enormous bird cage on Earth?  Yes, it is the KL Bird Park.  Have you been there?

KL Tower is visible from the bird park.  Most of our relatives and friends who have been to KL or even who have been staying in KL has never mentioned about this bird park to us.  Most of the time, the landmarks we heard from them are shopping malls.

I found this tourist spot which is more attractive to SiewPeng and I more than the shopping malls.  We did some researches from the Internet when we planned for our KL trip this year.  It is larger than I expected and we have spent at least 6 hours there, observing the natural behavior of different types of birds.

There are several huge enclosed aviaries to prevent the birds from flying away but not limiting the freedom of the birds to enjoy flying everywhere and anywhere in the bird park.

There are 4 zones in the bird park.  One of the highlights in the bird park is the Photo Booth where all the celebrity birds are gathered and let the visitors to take photos with them.  Look at the white hornbill on the left of the picture above, it is a real bird.

I guess the bird trainer must have trained and fed something to the celebrity birds to make them stand still.  They are the most special species of hornbill, owl, parrots etc. because their colours are rare.

The photographer will put the birds on your hand and shoulder before taking picture of you with these birds.  These birds just simply stand still, not move away from you during the whole process of taking photos.

Not far from the photo booth, there is a cockatoo which can greet you with “Hello” and “Apa Khabar”.  It is from Australia.

It was an eye opener for us (and mouth opener too :D) after we read the description about this bird.  It is a crow (”WuYa” in Mandarin, or “Gagak” in Malay).  It is supposed to be black, but it appears to be totally white.  It is an Albino Crow.

From the description it says that:-

[Like in humans, albinism in animals is a condition when the body of the living creature cannot produce pigments that give natural colour to its body such as skin hair or eyes.

A crow that is pure white, with pink coloured bill, feet, claws, and eyes shows that the bird is a pure albino. Albinism is common in crow but pure albino crow like this is very rare and hard to find. Albino animals are usually considered as special creatures Sometimes believed to have special mystical powers and charm in the human culture. For example, some people believe that keeping an albino animal can bring luck and wealth to its owner.

Albino animals are simply different in appearance from their other normal relatives, thus chances of being picked as a mate is very low. The white appearance of the body also makes them highly visible to predators in the wild. Some albino animals are also found to be sterile, meaning that they are unable to breed.] - copied from the sign board.

There is a proverb in Chinese, “TianXia WuYa YiBanHei” directly translated to English means all the crows in this world are black, which is commonly used to describe all the bad guys are bad.  Now, this albino crow objects to this proverb and protests using its white colour.

We wanted to take the photo with peacocks, but they are too small in the photo.  Never mind, I will show you the photos of peacocks which are the most commonly seen bird in the park soon.

There is an exhibition room in the bird park, where pictures, posters and descriptions about birds are displayed.  We took a photo of ourselves reflected by the windows outside this room.

The thing that worried us the most is the rain.  Look at the picture.  No, it was not raining, it is the man-made waterfall.  Luckily, it was sunny that whole day.

Visited KL Bird Park 15
We walked into a mini cave, behind the waterfall.  We could hear the sound of the water, and it was like raining.

See, SiewPeng is pointing to a piece of water curtain.

This is the area where the daily bird show is held.  There are 2 shows per day.  We missed the first one, so we have attended the second show of the day, which I guess they are the same or similar.

I am still sorting the photos of different kinds of birds, and will show them to you in the coming posts.  Please come back and check them out.
