Mountain Shaped Cactus 02

This is the dark green cactus with golden hair.  Each of the branches are in round shape with random size, crowded and packed together which make this cactus looks like a mountain.

There are at least 3 types of cactus which look similar to this cactus. - Thinner, fatter, and with different colours of hair / thorns.

I remember when I was in primary 4, my classmate who sat next to me gave me a similar cactus which had thinner shape.  Each branch was a bit longer.  The cactus plant died not long after I planted it.  My mother then brought me to our local Sunday Market (famous wet market in Kuching, Malaysia) to get one.  I found and bought a fatter one, and I asked the seller if she had the thinner ones, she said yes but did not bring it.  She said she would bring it the coming weeks.  My mother and I went to the market again 2 weeks later and bought the exact type of cactus which my classmate had given to me.

This is the type of cactus which I have planted many years ago.  It has small yellow flower in square shape just like if you cut this cactus horizontally.  All of the branches put together look like hundreds of sharp thin green mountains.

It was about 10 years ago, I recycled a big drawer of a plastic cabinet into a big pot of this cactus.  I just planted 4 or 5 branches, and it grew up to hundreds branches in less than a year.  Finally it flowered.  But months later, it had not enough space to expand and the water could not be drained properly and … it died.

If you read my post yesterday, you would know that the pictures above were taken in Cameron Highlands.  After my cactus are getting healthier, I will take the photos of my own cactus.
