We have observed cats eating grass before but never understood the reasons why they do that. And we caught Mr. Yellow having a grass feast the other day so we quickly took these shots. And of course, we are definitely going to clear our doubts on cats eating grass this time!

Well, from some researches, it turns out that there are a few reasons for cats to do that. It appears that grass has become some sort of laxative for cats to pass hairballs lodged in their intestines. Therefore, after a grass feast, the grass will make cats vomit up hairballs.

Mr. Yellow sensed that he has been spotted. A bit startled there.

Sometimes when cats feels sick, they eat grass too. This will make them vomit as well and get rid of the poisons in their bodies. Eating grass is also a way to relieve inflammation of their throats and stomach ache.

Nevertheless, it didn’t disturb his grass feast. Whew~~

Speaking about eating habits, grass eating is also to add roughage to the cats’ diets.

He has finished his grass feast of the day. He looked away as if he was waiting for the grass to do its job in his stomach.

Seemed like the elimination of hairballs has begun. He looked tensed.

“Back off…I need some air.”

Well, he did vomitted not long after that. Hope he is alright.

There is no backdrop used when this picture was taken. In fact, the following pictures as well. The cat was sitting on the platform of the fifth floor of the building when these shots were snapped. It was in the evening. As such, the street has become a natural backdrop for the cat, Mr. Yellow.

He wasn’t seem to be disturbed by the clicking sound of the camera even though he made some slight movements. He was enjoying the wind and the sunset.

Once in a while, he will close his eyes to venture into some deep thoughts. Nobody knows what is on his mind. He has been living for more than ten years. It a wonder to know his thoughts.

Sounds and noises from the street interrupted his “meditation” of deep thoughts sometimes.

He flattened his ears to show a bit of dissatisfaction. But was still trying to concentrate.

He gave up. He took a look at the source of the noises.

He decided to ignore them instead.

Do you notice anything special in the picture above?  This picture was taken when I was on board the aeroplane the other day.  As you might have observed, there is cloud and land.  But take a closer look, there are some black spots and they are actually the shadow of the cloud!

Nature is always a good painter.  With the shape of the cloud, you can use your imagination to guess what it looks like.  Here I consider it as a small umbrella.  From the view above the sky, the cloud helped to cover part of the land to prevent the direct burn from the sun.  While the cloud was moving, the land take turn to share the shade because the shade was limited. 

If the shade is too big, and caused few hours losing the direct sunlight, some human on that area will thought it is a cloudy day and no direct sunlight for them to dry their cloth, while some will enjoy the weather because the day is cooler especially in the tropical countries.

I like smaller pieces of cloud.  First, it is not too cloudy and would not be too dark on the land.  Second, it has less potential to have a rain.

The shape of the shadow is identical as the shape of the cloud even it is in the ocean.

Another thing that I have noticed, the cloud is preventing itself from going out of the boundary between land and the sea.  The cloud has not enough place to stay above the land, therefore part of the cloud were forced to stay above the ocean no matter if they are willing or not.

Please correct me if I am wrong, from what I have learned from Geography in the early day: - The wind always exists at the coast.  During day time, the direction of the wind is blowing towards the land, therefore the cloud has been carried by the wind and sent inward to the land.  There was not much cloud in the middle of the ocean.

If I tell you the angle of the shadow is exactly 90 degrees vertically down the cloud, can you tell me what is the time when the photo was taken?  In the older days, the ancient China clocks were just made of a needle and a plate marked with the time and placing it under the sun.  Based on the shadow of the needle on the plate, they know what was the time. 

The sun shines on us everyday and reflects our shadows on the ground but we never thought of it as something peculiar.  It is something so normal.  As our interest, we help you rediscover the nature elements where they may be the most common things but sometimes being ignored.  Let’s regain our awareness about our surroundings and of course ourselves.  We need to discover ourselves too, otherwise the part that we ignore would become our surrounding as well.
